Little wisdom requested about a non C Clip Dana 35
Working on a Dana 35 removed from an 86 XJ. Passenger side has a leaky outer seal. This diff also has an inner seal. This diff takes Timken set 9 bearing.I'm gonna take the axle shaft to a shop to have the old seal and bearing removed and a new seal and bearing pressed back on.Does this bearing need to be greased(packed) like a normal tapered wheel bearing or does it get lubed with gear oil. If it does get lubed by gear oil from the diff...then why is there an inner seal?

Just go get an 8.25 or a 44 from another xj. They're bolt in, higher strength, and with more aftermarket support. Make sure the gearing matches the front and you'll be ok. Or you can rent a bearing puller/presser and do it yourself. Shops would love to charge you a couple hundred to pull/press new bearings so buying a new axle is justifiable.
