Default Lighting wiring harness 1991 xj

OK gear-heads.......here is one question I have to ask, I searched until my fingertips were blue. (all Jeep forums, you tube etc. etc)

ANYBODY EVER REPLACE WIRING HARNESS FOR REAR LIGHTING THROUGH THE BODY OF THE JEEP?

I KNOW IT RUNS DOWN THE DRIVER SIDE INSIDE THE CHANNEL OF THE BODY.

I RECENTLY BOLTED SOME SKID PLATES BELOW THE DECKING (1/4 IN STEEL PLATES CUSTOM MADE)....ME-THINKS I ACCIDENTALLY DRILLED UP AND INTO THE WIRING HARNESS WHICH FEEDS THE REAR LIGHTS.

AS I NOW HAVE NO LEFT TURN SIGNAL VOLTAGE.

MY NEXT STEP TOMORROW IS TO OHM OUT THE CONNECTOR PIN (#9) ON THE LH KICKPANEL (OF A 10 PIN CONNECTOR) WHICH TRAVELS TO THE LEFT REAR TAIL/TURN/STOP/REV LIGHT ASSEMBLY AND CONNECTS AT ("C") CONNECTOR (WIRE IS LG/BLK) FOR THE TURN SIGNAL LIGHT (WIRE IS BR FROM THE TAIL LIGHT ASSY CONN, I CHECKED THAT TO THE LIGHT ITSELF AND IT OHMS OUT GOOD) IF IT IS OPEN BETWEEN BODY HARNESS AND THE FRONT CONNECTOR, THEN I KNOW I GOTTA RE- RUN A NEW WIRE.

JUST CURIOUS IF ANYONE HAS DONE THIS ( FISHED A NEW WIRE THROUGH THE BODY. (WITHOUT TEARING THE WHOLE FRIGGIN THING APART.) IF SO, HOW HARD WAS IT? OR NOT AT ALL DIFFICUT?

THANKS FOR READING, APPRECIATE ANY AND ALL FEEDBACK!

Open up the interior panel in the rear and see if you drilled it. It's a couple of screws and the panel comes.

Ok, well where I drilled was under the front and rear driver side, soooo, I don think that removing the rear panel will do any good to ge to the "channel" area where the harness runs (fuse box/switch/connector assy, front seat, rear seat, back fender, light assembly)

the plate I installed is under the Front and Rear seating area.

just curious if anyone out there has re-run the wiring harness assy that travels from fuse panel/ connector at LH front kick panel back to the tail light assy on the LH side.

Also, will know for sure about wire tomorrow when I ohm it out. If it is "OPEN" then I have to run something, wondering if standard electrical FISH-TAPE would make it all the way through the channel. will investigate further in the AM.

Thanks!

I have run the wires before. Post pictures of where this plate is. There is no "channel" the wires run through. They just run behind the trim on the drivers side. So if you drilled into that area you may have hit one. And I can guarantee you won't get very far with the fish tape. It's a tight fit under the trim. Just take off the trim and inspect the area you drilled.

found it!

way back when I first bought Ol' Red, I had a hitch installed. the bozos who installed it had gone through the wiring harnes to see where the "hot" was for the tow light connector etc etc....

I found this morning under the LH kick panel ( driver side front under dash), the wiring harness a 14Ga. green wire which had been cut and stripped, then twisted together (NO TAPE, or wire nut or anything),,, so this via checking with ohmmeter all the way through the harness showed the exposed twists of this particular wire through vibration, moisture, temp extremes, what have you, had lost connectivity. what a PIA.

Anyway I re-stripped each of the two ends then twisted them together, then I soldered tem together, then taped them very well. I think the real left turn signal problem is solved!

Appreciate EVERYONES feedback as always! This is a great forum and I do like to keep things light and upbeat!
Thanks again, glad to be here!

cheers!
