light switch

My 94 cherokee has a bad burning smell coming from the head light switch. I have run into this problem before with my buddys cherokee and just changed the switch is this a common problem. Any help is appricated

The switch will get hot when something in that circuit starts to draw to much power. So do a walk around and make sure all of your bulbs are working and are the right ones. I have seen this all in recent times that people put higher wattage headlights/bulbs in and the later on the switch will get hot or burn up. Because they never changed it out or the wiring to match the power needs of the lights. If everything is in working order then just replace the switch and check the pigtail for burn marks, cleanliness etc...
