So I'm fairly new to owning an xj(mine's a 97 sport) and the previous owner pretty much ran it into the ground. I've been attempting to bring it back to a presentable level. one of the things that bugs me is that it doesn't seem to have lighting near your feet. I've looked and cant find any sockets/bulbs. I've seen pictures of other xj's and such with them so I assume my bulbs are out. specifically where are they supposed to be? anyone have pictures? right now I've just got my 2 dome lights, and they're not even coming on when I open the hatch, only when I open a front door or turn the dimmer
My floor lights are right under the dash real close to the dash. Reach up under there. One is right against the driver side and one is right against the passenger side
The driver's side courtesy lamp is behind the DLC connector, just above the hood release handle. The passenger side courtesy lamp is just below the glove box, on the extreme right side.
See if your cargo bay lamp switch is turned off. Open the liftgate and cycle the cargo bay lamp switch (lens) on and off to see if the dome light works.
If it is a lower trim level, you probably won't even have the sockets. If you look under the dash on either side, you'll likely find an empty wiring connection on both sides, these being where the optional sockets would connect. I have an SE which is base trim, and I went to the junkyard and pulled the light sockets with their brackets from an upper-trim XJ.
Mount them to the dash, plug them in, add bulbs, and Bob's your uncle.
Get some colored LEDs, while you're at it. Makes it look rad inside. I swapped all of my interior bulbs, floor, dome, cluster, etc... with GREEN LED. It's like I'm riding in Hulk's colon.
thanks guys, I'm gonna guess they're not there due to the trim level. manual everything except mirrors lol. I will have to see if i can come up with a set of sockets or get creative and make my own. Mine is green, with green led radio lights, so I might do something green with the floor lights too
I was able to find all of the bulbs in Green LED on ebay for less than $20. A lot of vendors sell packages. I bought one kit that covered all instrument and floor lights, then bought the dome light separate. Easy project and I am super happy with the result.
