2000 4.0 77k on clock
Light knocking/tapping on start up can't hear it over 2000rpm
I've read else where and piston slap seems to be a possibility
What else could this be and how do I go about fixing/resolving this

Just starting to piece together a lift and can't afford any surprises

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

 

The engine in my red jeep has had a top end rattle for around 50k miles if its something like that I wouldn't worry about it.

 

Our 4.0's are noisy engines. Unless it's a solid-sounding noise, I'd just run it until it dies. I'm on my 2nd XJ and they both have had the noisest engine of anything that I have ever had, and my other vehicle is a '76 Dodge Power Wagon with over 400,000 miles on the original motor.
