Default LIFTING questions.. LONG ARM VS SHORT ARM

I have owned one other Cherokee before but it was a 90s Cherokee on a 6.5" long arm lift.

Wasn't fond of how high it sat.

I was thinking of Lifting my new one 4.5" don't see much point in going really bigger then that.

What is the advantages of getting a long arm Lift Compared to a short arm?

and with a 4.5" lift i could still fit 33s on it if i chopp the fenders a bit correct? maybe even 35s?

Long arms provide a smoother ride and more axle articulation

Check out the "low COG suspension tips/tricks" thread. It's full of info on everything you need to know. A 4.5" long arm on 33's is pretty damn awesome, though. The idea of a longer traveling, flatter sitting control arm provides for a more consistent and smoother ride all together. Coupled with good shocks its hard to beat.

Company wise? RE, Clayton, TeraFlex, Serious Offroad Products.. It's your call as to how much you want to spend.

Just get a lift kit from RE and shocks from Bilstein. Doesn't have to be a long arm if you don't care about smooth ride or good articulation off road. At 4.5" and 33's you'd probably want to trim a little bit. Just make sure to bump stop properly and you will avoid over stuffing a tire and damaging the tire and/or fender.

Then upgrade axles and go to 35's. That on a 4.5" la setup would be boss.
