Default Liftgate alignment

Hi folks,I'm new to jeeps, but done a lot of 4 wheeling and repair in the past with Dodge Ramchargers. Too bad gas got so expensive. Anyhow, I picked up a '93 Cherokee 4 door from a neighbor kid for 250 bucks 2 years ago. He had bashed the right front end in and toasted the radiator and fan. I took care of that right off, and been driving the jeep since. It's got a bad case of rust in the usual places, which I started repairing with appliance sheet metal. Thats when I ran into this issue. I've replaced the rear cargo pan and patched up the rear quarters, but now the liftgate catches on the bumper mount on the left side. When you look at it from the rear, it appears that the sill plate running across the jeeps rear end is not straight..its higher on the left side. Has anyone run into this? And what's the fix? Or should I just smack it down with a BFH? Seems to me that the spot welds holding the spring perches would not allow it to move up or down. If anyone can think of a solution, I'd sure appreciate the help.
Thanks.

I found the problem here.. for anyone else doing this, be sure your support columns around the inner side of the liftgate door to the roof are solid, They attach to the cargo pan inboard of the taillight housings right above the spring perches. I cut the totally rusted out left side in my mad attack on the rust without paying close attention to this. The left side of the roof sagged slightly without this support, and caused the left side of the liftgate to drop. I'll need to push it up a bit and remake the rusted out part. I'll post a couple pics later. I'm going out to fix it up today. More hamburger hands, dang it
