Liftgate Ajar Light Flickering

So everyday I drive on a washboard dirt road and recently my liftgate ajar light on my dash flickers on and off while going over the very irritating road. I cant figure out how to get it to stop. Any help would be appreciated

I have a very similar problem with my 98 XJ Sport. But, My light doesn't flash it just stays on. I was told that it may be the switch that is located on the latch. For now I just put a piece electrical tape over the light until I can pull the hatch panel to clean it out or replace if I need to...
