Default lifters

so apone taking my head off today i noticed a TON of build up the p/o was not very good about oil changes, i wanna clean it all out, i am thinking i can remove the lifters then flush out the gallies by just pouring oil in and drain to oil pan? or is there a beter way, also where can i order the lifter removal tool,

Or are the lifters the only thing keeping gunk contained?

Just saying if it was me, i would replace the lifters, they aren't that pricey and if you change lifters and pushrods then you should have a noticeably better sounding ride. and it cleans the gunk out while your at it!

JuSt ordered new lifters/pushrods and fuel injector o rings, having my head reserfaced, need to find out how to clean the oil gallie where the lifters go, anyone know?

Shouldn't really need to clean that, lifters will just drop in, you don't want to spray chemicals or anything there cause its right on the cam, if anything just get a soft nylon bristle bottle brush and run it in the holes before you drop the lifters in. Trust me I just did this two days ago and the new ones slid in very nicely

I would never spray solvents cause of the bearings but there is some chunky oil deposits near the lifters i want to scrap off

Suprized no body else knows anything lol, lifters going in tonight stripping the head tonight, head getting decked an cleaned tomorrow , then new valve guides and pushrods, to go with the new lifters

I dont think you have to prime the lifters... Let me double check though...

So it looks like its not needed. I didnt prime mine when I rebuilt my motor... Here is a source from crane cams http://www.cranecams.com/faqview.php?s_id=30

You could always do a google search on priming hydraulic lifters if you want to read some other views.

I put assembly lube on the tops and bottoms of the lifter. The cam was covered in lube of course.

i would soak them in some fresh oil for a couple of hours
