Lifter ticking...
Hey guys... I have read so much about additives to stop this annoying tick.
Some of these products seem to do what you need them to do, and people swear by them, others seem to think they plain out destroy what's left of your engine.
Do any of you have any thoughts about this? I have a 1990 Cherokee Laredo 4.0L. It basically runs beautiful, and just recently it started to tick.
Also, I need a front drivers side seat if anyone knows where I might be able to find one.
Thanks,
Big Al

I never add anything to my engines. most of that stuff does more harm than good. It will break down junk in the motor and go places it shouldnt. a trick that works kind of well though is drain your oil, fill with transmission fluid and run for a few minutes, then drain it and fill it with oil.
Does your lifter tick at all rpms or just idle? ive got a 94 that has been ticking for the past 100,000 or more miles, its currentsly at 375k. still runs beautifully.

It just ticks until it warms up. It seems like it takes a few minutes until the oil gets up there, and only after it has sat for a few days. I do an oil change, and run a bottle of Techron about every three thousand miles. That seems to lessen it some, but I still hear a faint tick until it heats up.
Good to know you are getting that kind of mileage out of yours. I love driving this old warrior... and want to keep it running nice.

Ticking
I'll check the exhaust and see what's going on there. I service it about every 3000K like clock work. It runs so strong, and even stronger after the service. This is a relatively new development, so it's got me a little more concerned than usual.
I also do a lot of city driving and I'm in traffic all the time, that's why I run the Techron, at low RPMs it keeps the motor running smoother than glass.

than the quickest thing you can do is remove the valve cover and check your rocker fulcrums and the valvtrain.......since you said tick i wouldnt suggest flywheel....although it wouldnt hurt to check the Convertor bolts....

Nipped the tic...
OK, six months later... I figured out what the tick was. The upper pipe on the exhaust. I was hauling *** down the thruway on the way to work the other day when it completely blew out. It's replaced and the tick is gone. 93gc40... you were the closest. Thanks
I'm still needing a drivers seat though, and it getting worse. Anyone have any ideas where I might find a replacement? Let me know. A

OK... here's the deal... I brought my 90 Laredo over to a mechanic... he spotted what appeared to be a broken bolt on the head. He's saying, until the motor heats up... I will have a tick, until I pull that bolt out and put in a new one.
