On a 99 cherokee 2wd. I want to get the newer style jk rims and tires. 255/75/17 size tires. I am at stock height right now and was thinking of putting just a 2 inch lift on. Is that enough lift for these rims/tires to fit without rubbing? If not will i have to go to 3 inch? I don't want to lift it to 3 inches if i don't have too. Thanks Mike.

They won't fit without a bit of trimming. Even at 3 inches you still may rub. Those tires are a 32s. You can fit 31s at 3 inch lift.

Is it the width of the the tires? Or the height of the sidewall that will rub. Also what will i have to trim the bumbers or will i have to get into the fenders? If i used the 255/75/17

2 inches will not be enough lift without some "trimming."

The height is the issue. You'll have to trim bumper end caps and probably take off the flares and trim the fenders as well.

So what is the highest sidewall i can go? 55? or is a 17 inch rim just to big for my application?

I personally think a 17 inch rim on essentially a stock XJ is too big.

There are some nice rims in 15 inch. take your pick. And with a 2 inch lift I would get 235/75r15 tires

If you're going up 2 inches look into a 30 inch wheel. Mine are kinda an odd ball size but I got a deal. This is a little over a 29 inch tall tire by about 10 wide. I am on a RE 2 inch lift with add a leaf and spacers. Shocks replaced. 15 inch rim backspaced at 3.75. The tire is about even with the flair.

At 1:40 he says they put on a 1.5 rough country lift with those 17 inch Rubicon rims and 30 inch BFG's.

I was just wondering how did they fit all that with no trimming and without any rubbing.

It says it has a rubicon express 1.5 inch lift. Mine is a 2 inch. If you go add a leaf and spacers with shocks it runs about 250. You could run the JK rims if you keep the size less then what they came with. Think 30 inches actual diameter. You would need an adapter to go from 4.5x5 to 5x5. This will keep you from rubbing the lower control arms but will push you out towards your flares depending on your backspacing. Would look great on the street but probably not off-road worthy at all.

This jeep is my daily and i don't do any off roading at all. Also live in Florida where we don't get any snow. Hence why i don't want to lift it that high. Just trying to see if i can get the rims and tires to a more modern look.

You can fit 30 inch tires on a 1.5 inch lift but that's it. no bigger. if you really absolutely want those rims you can. just don't go bigger then 30s.
