Dont get Rustys. I tried to get a lift and it took FOREVER and it didn't even come with everything then they tried to charge me shipping twice to ship the rest of the parts. i sent it all back and told them to keep the lift then I bought rough country and i've been really happy with it

I'm for surely going to put BFG 33x12.50 R15's on it and I was curious and would like to know a few things first.
1. What are the pros/cons of upgrading from the short arm to long arm?
2. I might upgrade to 35x12.50's later on with the help of a body lift, any recommendations on a good body lift and what would the recommended height be for the body lift?
3. I know to upgrade the axles for the 35's, I'm going to get Dana 60 for the rear and Dana 44 for the front, but what does it mean to have the axles locked?
4. Recommended Exhaust?
5. Are there any other things I should look in to or do I have the basic setup already planned out?

Thanks for any and all comments.

The first thing you should ask yourself is "What's my budget"... Your talking about a lot of cash to get where you want.
The second question you should ask yourself is "What is my skill level"... If your going to do the work yourself you can save a lot of cash.
How does this sound...
Used Cherokee $2000 - $5000
Long arm lift... A good one... $2000
Regearing... ? You need it with 33's.
Tires... ? Are you buying new tires... Lots of $$$ for 33's
SYE... around $200 or more
New rear driveshaft... $200 - $400.
Normal repairs and so on... Lots of $$$

These are just rough off the top of my head ideas. You can spend more or less, you can buy used... I'm not saying it has to cost you this much, maybe you can buy used parts or fab your own.
In my opinion to do it right you have to ask yourself... "Do I have $4000 to $9000 dollars to spend"? "Do I have the tools and the talent to do this...
All things to consider. Of course, you can see that there are many on this site that love their jeeps and can't wait for the next part or mod... myself included. It can get pricey though... That's all I'm saying...

A $700 dollar Cherokee is going to be a high mileage older one. I think your better off going down south for a rust free lower mile one. I didn't pay more than $1200 for any of the three I have but you better be a good mechanic if your going to do that.
Rough Country is junk. Go with RE or RockCrawler if your going to go that high.
I'm fine with the gears... I just wouldn't put used ones in mine...
33" tires for $25 each with half tread? I've never seen that kind of deal. But if you say so... ok. You wouldn't find them on my Jeep.
My PORC SYE was $184. Then you need fluid, RTV and so on. $200 minimum.
I am running a front driveshaft on the rear on mine with 3.5" lift. I would not recommend that with a 6" lift though... I would only go with a custom driveshaft with that much lift.

Cherokee 4.0... six pack smile said make sure it's short arm... then you said what's your prob. Then i say long arm you call me a jerk. Do you know anything about lift kits? It's looking like your IQ might be on the lower side.... and Mike1998XJ was giving him an price ranges of what things could cost. Why do you feel like you have to prove everybody wrong on anything they say. It's looking like your the jerk and looking like you don't know much about cherokees and/or lift kits. Do you actually know if long or short arm will give you more articulation?

As stated before, arm length doesn't make any difference when relating to tire size. However lift height does. It sounds like you are going to work into this gradually. If that is you, plan for the future so you don't have to do it twice.

In my opinion he shouldn't put some cobbled up system with spacers and springs and used parts together. Do it right or don't do it. Or, do it twice.

There is a reason you can buy a cheap lift under a grand, or spend the bones on a quality lift for double that or more. You get what you pay for.
I just went on Craigslist in my area and there are no Cherokees anywhere near $700. A decent one around here is easily $3000+. And that's still not going to get you a great one.
No $25 dollar 33" tires with half tread on Craigslist either.
But that aside...
All I'm saying is having a lifted Cherokee is a great thing, but be aware as many will agree they can be a real money pit.
Let's let the original Poster read our posts and tell us what he thinks. I would hope he has done some of his own research...

I'm with Mike1998XJ.

To the original post'r...
You are obviously extreamely new to the sport... buy a decent cherokee, armor it put good tires on it and and go from there.
A POS rig will have you wishing you never got into the Cherokee world.

My iq is around 125, incase you cared. A long arm kit isnt neccsary unless hes doing hard core wheeling. Your right i dont know a darn thing about cherokees, i never have owned one. Or lifted one or pulled the motors or rebuild the top half of the motors or spent the last 2 years non stop tinkering with them.
