I have a 92 cherokee with an automatic trans and a d35 in the back. Sooo if i would do different gears inmy axles with 35s and go easy on the gas pedal i should be safe????
what makes you think that not having C clips makes it as strong as a 8.25? you still have tiny axles, a small ring gear, and small axle tubes prone to bending. the only thing not having c clips does is makes it so your axle doesnt fall out when you break one.
i wouldnt risk it. most guys wont run a D35 with anything bigger than a 31" tire because it is THAT prone to breaking; granted, some have better luck with it than others. spend your money on a different axle like a D44 or Ford 8.8

if you want to go with 35's then you might want to consider going with 4.56's instead of the 4.10's. you would only be at 2500rpm @67mph on the freeway, and you would have all the power you need for offroading. if you read anywhere on this thread, you will find 95% of people tell you to ditch the D35 if you plan on going with a locker or bigger tires then 31". some people get luck, but you are better off picking up a Dana 44 in a junkyard for 3-400 bucks or a Chrysler 8.25 for like $250 or so. spend a little more now and save in the long run

There's a big difference between a D30 and D35(strength wise). I don't think i'd go back in the woods with a D35 and any real tire on that axle. Find a Chrysler 8.25 somewhere and bolt that up.

if you have a auto with 3.55's and a stick with 3.07's it doesnt mean the auto is going to do better... lol... the stick is going to be geared differently in the transmission then the auto... this is why the gear change from the factory to keep the speedo in line... if you swap a 3.55 in a 3.07 jeep its like going 3.55's to 4.10's...

i believe that the AX-15 is just as strong if not stronger then the AW-4 due to the fact is has to deal with such a tall 1st gear. but they that debate would go on forever and it would just be an opinion battle.

huh? lol... nobody said anything about which tranny is better? but you started it... and i say the AX15 is better... i see automatics being needed all the time on CL and on here... or problems with them... never do i see anyone needing a AX15... that and everything ive ever read on the net puts the AX15 at the stronger trannys jeeps made for many many years... BA-10 being the crappiest... and the NP207 being the crappiest transfer case...

the c-clips were the weak link on the d35! i have a d44 and d60 ready when i break. but let me tell ya something, i have wheeled the **** out of my jeep, and the only things that have broke were the door handles and CB whip from trees. its all on how you drive it is what it all comes down too. oh yeah, i smashed my down tube on the exhaust from a rock also. but thank you for the information on the gear choice.

the c clip is not the weak link boss... the c clip style only means the axle will fall out if the axle itself breakes... if it is a non-c clip axle then the axle wont fall out if it breakes (not easily anyways). Its the axle breaking that will kill you... c clips rarely actually break and cause problems...
