Default Led dash for 94XJ and socket info

I'm thinking of changing the dash lights over to led. Are they able to dim like the stock lights? Also, where can I get a replacement socket for where it illuminates the rear wiper switch?

Thanks

I changed mine to led and they are not dimmable. That was stated by the seller upfront. I couldn't find any that were dimmable.

Dimming LEDs requires a digital process called pulse width modulation, which essentially oscillates the power to the LED between the on-state and the off-state with an integrated circuit driver at varying frequencies depending on the desired brightness. (This is why you can perceive a flash effect from some LED illuminated products in your peripheral vision when you turn your head, they aren't being driven at full brightness and are actually flashing faster than the human eye can perceive when focused on it.)

For this reason, I doubt it'd be very comfortable to drive for extended periods looking at instruments illuminated by LEDs that are being PWM'd, it seems like the oscillation would tire your eyes out, possibly cause headaches, etc. It's probably one of those things that affects everyone differently, I just know it bugs me. Obviously on newer vehicles, the clusters are built with high-quality PWM drivers which makes the pulse much less noticeable.

Replacement LEDs with the necessary IC driver built in are available, the additional hardware drives the price up a bit, but not by much. Here is a link to a well-reviewed #74 replacement, which is what goes into the cluster illumination of my '96. I've bought from this vendor before and the service has always been great.

I don't know why you would need to change the bulb socket behind your rear wiper switch, as long as the new bulb matches the specification of the OE unit, it should be plug and play.

Hope this is helpful.

I found the OEM fog light swich housing and I need an extra socket because My XJ wasn't equipped with fog lights so I need the additional light. I'm also searching for the pigtail for OEM switch too

Ah, gotcha. All readily available at the junkyard... Although the fog light pieces may be a challenge since they weren't standard on any one trim level. I did the same thing when I added the factory clock assembly.
