Default Leaking Radiator

I recently flushed the nasty rust fest that was going on in the radiator and was scared that it would knock something loose and I would have a leak, all was fine until.......I can take my daughter to school and back home in a straight shot with no leaking roughly about 18 miles round trip.....IF from my daughters school I side track and go the 4 or so miles to napa has done this three times now the radiator leaks from the bottom left (passenger side) any clues as to why on a shorter trip it leaks? It has been roughly a high of the mid 50's around these parts on these drives

Check your hoses to start with, then drain plug( I forget if it's on the passenger side or not but I'm pretty sure it is), and finally check your overflow hose to see if you may have clogged it with the flush you did( just disconnect both sides and look down the hose or blow through it). Other than that I have no clue other than you need a new one

its more than likely the drain plug ( on passenger side bottom side of radiator).

make sure its all the way turned in.

you can get a new standard radiator for about 100.00, and heavy duty for around 230.00. takes about a six pack and 3 hours to change

Nice, well the drain plus is snug and it doesn't appear that the leak is coming from there. All the hoses are good the overflow was a bit gunked up but I dont think it was bad enough to cause a leak. All signs are pointing to a leaky rad?

Had a similar problem, never did figure it out, but it stopped when I replaced it. I can't speak for the $230 replacement, but the $100 one is more like a 12 pack than a 6. It's a one-size-fits-several and has some extraneous brackets that require modification to get a good seat. There are several articles floating around the forum worth reading. Disconnecting the tranny line can be a bit of a pain, you'll need a fuel line whatchamacallit (disconnect?). not trying to discourage you though, it's a definite DIY.

Our $100 rad from AutoZone was an exact match to the factory OE rad. Dropped right in with zero issues....perfect fit.

I used a Ready-Rad from O'Reilly's/Advance Auto Parts. Sounds like the one from Auto Zone is the way to go. Website has it listed as a Spectra.

Well, was thinking that the plug is NOT in good as you had mentioned that there was a significant amount of debris and gunk and crap came out when you flushed it...

It is possible, maybe, possible, that a small peice of sediment is stuck in teh female thread of the radiator where the petcock threads in. And being plastic, the petcock may have seemed al the way tight, but with something wedged between threads (kinda like water line in the house without teflon tape on the threads), any little particle in that will cause a non-seal.
but thats just my two cents sir!

if all else fails, go for the c-note radiator and bring the jeep back to life!

cheers!
