Hello All, I'm new to this forum and I'm new to Jeep, this is my first.
I'm generally pretty good with Engines, and I've had a few Dodges and from what I can tell this 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee seems pretty straight foward.
Here's the deal: I just bought this car from someone today. It was running a couple of weeks ago but it just died on them one day while in traffic.
What I know so far is that there is fuel pressure, the cam is spinning but there is no Spark! - The engine cranks.
I did a secondary spark test, and there's no spark after the coil.
Now, here's where I'm getting a bit unsure of myself: I attached a DVM to the input side of the coil expecting to see some kind of voltage when the key is turned and the engine is cranking.. But I get only .25 volts. - That does not seem right to me, I was expecting 12ish.
This makes me suspect the ICM or the Crank Sensor or Cam Sensor.
So my thinking is this: Replace the Crank Sensor first, then the Cam Sensor next, then the ICM itself needed. -
I'm looking for input / thoughs / guidance .
Is there something else I should be looking at? I'm really new to this machine.
Thanks in advance!

Yup, turned out to be the Crank Sensor. Picked one up at my local NAPA store, put it in and whosh! Purr'n like a kitten.
That was one of the easier fixes I've ever done (although getting that thing in and out was a bit of a reach...)
Thanks!

Glad you got it straightened out and posted the results, rather than leaving the thread hanging.

I mean, we should write a letter to chrysler saying: HOW THE HELL IS THS THAT YOU HAVEN'T FIXED THOSE CRAPPY CPS SENSORS YET?? But on the other hand we wouldn't find jeeps for cheap..
