Lack of power and slow accelaration
Hey guys I might or might not have a problem here my jeep runs great and it's very reliable but my sister recently got a 96 country with 220k on the clock and I noticed that it accelerates very fast and can easily top out at 85 no problems while my 94 has 176k and struggles to even get going I have to press my foot to the floor and it feels like I'm pushing to hard even on the highway it'll feel like its struggling. I don't really know what to check here. It's got new plugs, wires, distributor cap all that tune up stuff. I also get horrible mpg. I'm averaging around 8 or 9 I believe. I keep my foot out of it most of the time.

Ever figure out your problem?
I went to the dealership to have them do the rear main seal and evaporator core for me......
anyway I am having..
1. occasional startup issues unless I feather the pedal.
a. will rev up to 1500 sometimes
b. will start low rpm then stall
c. heavy gas smell when I first noticed symptoms
2. tank will not fill all the way
a. just under F when used to be just over F
3. lack of power
a. used to beg me to push the pedal now its acting like my coworkers...lethargic
I tightened the distributor cap less than quarter turn, no fix
Hose from fuel rail (where the clip is) to the metal line seems to be just short maybe half inch as I can see a shiny black part.
Saw another thread that mentioned a ground wire near the firewall, have not had a chance to check that.
I am still researching my Haynes manual....I will not let them kill my XJ because they want me to buy a 2014 Cherokee.
I guess if you want it done right you really should do it yourself.
I could have rented a car and did my own work and came out better off. I will find my Geo Metro one day as my second car.

And tell your dealer to shove that JK you their you-know-what. I refuse to visit my local Jeep dealer because I can't even get out of the damn XJ without them asking me if I wanna trade it in on a new one. Last time they did it I told them they offended me by calling my Jeep a "Clunker" (They seriously did) and left. I have yet to return to that place.

Check your EVAP system, Seems like there may be a leak or blockage in it. Just trace all the lines and make sure everything is hooked up for starters. That fuel smell and the tank not filling all the way makes me think that's the issue. I had the hose slip off my charcoal canister before, didn't cause performance issues but I did get a fuel odor.

Just started this morning and idled low 400ish but pulled through without me feathering.

I went to get the battery checked when I got off and as soon as advance put the tester on we both saw the negative was loose and only looked tight...so I tightened it. Noticed improvement in throttle response still got a low idle, when I stopped at store, that pulled through to start. Will update in the next couple days.

Threadjack.
Also having some shift issues but I think it is because I have too much Trans fluid. I plan on adding a trans cooler in the near future so it shouldn't be too much of a problem for now.
My other problems are solved.
Tightened negative terminal solved the tank fill problem.
Startup idle problem solved by cleaning throttle body and idle air controller and putting in a new gasket just for good measure.
Fires up first time every time, after I wait for the key buzz to stop.
My pockets thank Cherokeeforum.com very much

Too much trans fluid can hurt the transmission, check for sure and drain a little if you have to.

I refuse to do any business with my local Jeep dealer. They've ****ed me and my buddy over too many times. If I need parts, I drive 40 minutes to the next city.
