Exclamation Know How I Could Open My Hood? ...

Hi all,

I have a '98 Cherokee Limited. Lost my brakes last night, and discovered there is hardly any fluid in the reservoir. Just had a full brake check-up, and the master cylinder replaced last month, so it's going back to the shop! But today, the hood release t-handle broke loose from the cable and the hood is stuck shut. I've gone as far as removing the grill, but don't have the tools on hand to go further in dis-assembling the front end.

Does anyone know a simpler way to release the hood when there is no way to do it from the cab? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Grab the wire that broke off the handle with a pair of vice grips and give it a pull.

I would, except I don't see the cable. It's inside that black tube just past the door frame and I can't see how far in it is. Judging by the broken nub of wire on the handle, it can't be too far back. Unless it coiled back in there somewhere. I hope not.

I would dig out the cable housing for under the dash, and cut through the casing. (try a tube cutter) Until you find the broken end. Pull with vise grips. Obviously it's going to have to be replaced anyways. JMO!

x3 get access to the cable and pull it with some vise grips, maybe lube the latch area from the grill first, may be sticking a bit which caused the problem in the first place.

That's what the PO did on mine. I've got a new cable, just need to get off my butt and put it on.
