Default knocking/tapping when engine is hot

2001 4.0 Cherokee sport 4x4 80k miles
When the engine is cold there is no noise but when it warms up to operating temp 190-200 there is this light knocking noise that is loudest in the cab center right of the dash. When I open the hood and listen at the front its not noticeable. I thought it might be the valves but I don't think so. Its more of a knocking not ticking like valves. The engine runs smooth and has plenty of power. When the engine is idling it is most noticeable. As I accelerate I cant hear it.
After coming to a stop the transm. kinda clunks upon acceleration, don't know if its usual for this or not. Might be the nature of the beast. First Jeep that I have owned. Not to familiar with it. Let me know if you need more info. Thanks.

Ill tell you this not because I know a lot about Jeeps, I do own one and love working on it and am becoming more and more addicted to it.

From what I have read here it seems every Jeep is a little different and has its own little sounds/taps/ticks etc. Mine makes so many different noises it sounds like a chorus. I am slowly chiseling down the sounds.

As of right now my crank pully taps some, my serpentine belt squeaks (when it rains), my exhaust rattles some and buzzes a little from a leak, I have some body squeaks, I can hear the spare squeaking against the back glass, Sounds like I might have a lifter tick too.

So make sure it's not something really bad and check up with the more experienced guys on here.

Jeeps all have their own character though!

Had same problem. Its either a cylinder misfire or a crappy valve. If its a misfire,a tune up consisting of a new dist cap rotor plugs wires will end it. If its a valve its normal and welcome to the club of 300000 other jeeps with the same great engine and crappy valves. Itll run like that forever

Check lower exhaust manifold for a hairline crack.
