Default Knocking sound?

Ok so I have a knocking sound when I start up my jeep (1990 cherokee) it goes away but then comes back when I hit high rpms. I though that it might be a push rod So i replaced all of them but it still makes the noise. Any insight on this?

Pulling apart push rods

Check your torque converter bolts. Its a pretty common problem for them to be loose.

CLANK or more like a ticking?

CLANK is some sorta bearing. Ticking is usual lifters or other valve train noise.

For example, my '93 with noisy lifters

I will check the torque bolts. And it does sound like your cherokee code xj. Is it ok to run it like that?

Should be. I've been driving it for a bit over 10k like that, and the PO said it'd made that noise since 160k (it's got 194k now). You could always try changing the lifters, basically just pull your pushrods again and fish them out (they are what the pushrod sits on).

I had a similar issue and it ended up I just needed a new timing chain. My old one was so loose it was causing ticking or knocking. I replaced the timing chain and the engine ran smooth and quiet.
