Default knock sensor

Hey guys,
I just was under my jeep last night and noticed my knock sensor was unplugged, just sitting there, but the jeep runs fine, I am gonna try to make it hook up and stay but....is this going to do anything odd to it? To my knowledge the knock sensor is used just for retarding or advancing the timing, so you don't get detonation...is this true or am I just gonna shoot the valves out the head?

Knock sensor, from what I understand, "helps" to advance the timing to as advanced as it can go w/o detonation. But as cruiser told me once, it really doesn't make much of a difference working or not.
Now on a late 80s' Chevy for some reason it being unhooked screwed stuff up, but our JEEPS are no Chevy(least in that regard).

I would think if you can lug down the engine and it doesn't rattle, you should be ok.

Parship, you're fine.

All it does is tell the ECU to retard the ignition timing if it detects detonation.

It uses the same clip as the fuel injector does to stay attached....jm2cw

Grab one at the junkyard. I'm not sure how they get destroyed. Never seen one fail.
