Question keyless entry

I have been looking to install a keyless entry kit on my jeep. I have an 89 with power door looks. Has anyone done this? Is it easy?
Thanks

Default remote start plus keyless entry

I am wanting to do the same. I purchased a Bulldog system that is a remote starter (model 1200) that will have remotes the size of most keyless entry systems and still have an 800 foot range with keyless entry and remote start. You can buy these for around $99.00 at AutoZone. You could just purchase the keyless entry for $59.00. I live in a climate where we get to negative 30 degrees each winter. Autozone did not have the customized plug in wiring harness that is made specifically for the Jeep Cherokee, but JC Whitney did (it is also a Bulldog Security product) for only $20.00.

They also have system that will carry 2000 feet but the remotes are the size of a small walkie talkie (no thanks).

I will be installing this in about a week and I will let you know how it goes if you are interested. With the custom wire harness I will only have about five additional wires to locate. I do not have factory power locks but whomever had the Jeep two owners ago installed power locks and a keyless system. The remotes are lost and I was told by Bulldog that as long as the wiring and actuators are in place their system can handle the lock and unlock signals.

well I am just looking for keyless I dont really care about remote start. I live in FL its not cold here. I have stock power locks I really just wann know if there is an easy way to do this. I could just wire them to each unlock solenoid but I didnt wanna do that. I will just buy one and try to figure it out I guess.

I am planning to do the same as you guys, except that my jeep does not have power locks, so I will be installing the actuators as well.. hopefully it won't be too difficult!

I installed DEI Valet 712T keyless system on my 2000 XJ last year. I think it was about $30 and works really well.

I found most of my installation questions answered on www.the12volt.com forum.

My '92 Laredo has the factory IR sensor and board in the upper console.

I did not get the remote, however.

I would like to find an easy way to get the remote lock/unlock to work again.

Do you remember where you bought your keyless system? and by saying it works "really well" , does that mean you recommend it?

I bought mine at Buy.com but I don't see it on their site anymore. I see it on
Amazon Amazon
though. Price is a bit higher than what I paid last year but for about $40 I think it's still a bargain and yes, I'd recommend it.

My installation was relatively simple -- pressing an unlock button opens four doors and a rear hatch together, no extra diode or relay was needed. Of course you could choose to be more selective as to which door to open but that will require adding a relay or two.

Click here to see 712T owners manual

Below is my own note from the installation...

<---------712T-------------><------Jeep XJ----------->
pin#--color-----use------>>><<<<--
H1/1 -- RD --- +12V supply ------- RD ------- C1-7 (ignition switch)
H1/2 -- BL --- 2nd unlock output -- not used
H1/3 -- BK/WT1- domelight input #87A --- not used, maybe later
H1/4 -- BK/WT - domelight output #30 --- not used, maybe later
H1/5 -- GN/BK- all dr lock output-- OR/VT ---- C305-6
H1/6 -- WT/BK- lock #87A normally closed --- not used
H1/7 -- VT/BK- all dr lock input-- chassis ------- GND
H1/8 -- BL/BK- all dr unlk output------ PK/VT ---- C305-7
H1/9 -- VT --- all dr unlk input--- chassis ------- GND
H1/10-- WT --- park lights flash--- BK/YL ---- C201-45
H1/11-- BK --- GND ---------------- chassis -- GND
H1/12-- BN --- horn honk ---------- BK/RD ---- C1-1 (horn switch)
H1/13--GN/BK-- factory alarm disarm ---not used
H1/14--WT/BL-- CH3 output ---------not used
H1/15-- YL --- switched ignition -- DkBL ------- C1-9 (ignition switch)
H1/16-- OR --- ground when armed output --- not used
H1/17-- RD/WT- unlock #87A normally closed --- not used

1. Ignition switch connection to YL line doesn't seem to do anything. I thought that connection enables horn and parking lights activity when key is inserted and turned to ignition without unlocking with a FOB? Parking lights work fine when locking, unlocking, or when pressing the star button, and horn honks when pressing AUX/lock, AUX/unlock, or with the star button.

i think those of us with the black orb in the upper console can just order a clicker for that year jeep, and if you unscrew the plate with the orb (its actually the receiver for the remote) there should be a number in it. thats the code for your specific truck. a little google and you should be able to have a clicker working.

heres a link i found for the clicker $63 and comes with instructions.
