I have a 2000 jeep cherokee, i initially thought the ignition cylinder was bad because it will not turn to acc mode. Jeep will start but I cannot turn the key backwards. When I remove the cylinder it freely turns no issue. I should note that the steering wheel will no longer lock so IDK if that is indicative of something else that may be broken or not.

 

My 96 has 2 keys that will start the car and unlock it (manually). The key that will unlock the car electronically has a black plastic fob with buttons and is OEM afaic

Only one will go back to the ACC position. It is a plain metal key, no plastic fob. I carry both on my keyset

I have 2 sets of the black plastic fob keys, and I believe this is OEM, as the vehicle was well looked after, local car, had much original paperwork, user manual etc

I asked here, no one knows, (or maybe they just played dumb? )

Its not a key fault, as I have spares of each cut, weird idea, must be some Chrysler factory thing I opined ?
