I guess that's why they call them "Stealers". I called my local dealer for a key fob for my '97 XJ last week and was told that they are $50 and $50 for the programming. I also found exact replacements on the Web for about the same price and they said that I'd need to take it to a Jeep dealer for the programming but added that some locksmiths are able to do the programming. I'll be watching your post for replies.

All you have to do is hold the lock button down on the fob while holding the power lock button down on the door. I belive it is for 5 secs. Thats for the OEM ones so im not sure about aftermarket. HTH!

I have tried a few different ways to program an OEM fob with no luck on my 98'. I tried the 5sec thing above and it didnt work maybe I did it wrong. Anybody know if you have to take it to the dealer or not?

RKE programing for 97-01 xj's requires the use of a DRB scan tool, see your local dealer. All of the people that have come into the dealer where I work, with the "I got this FOB off of the internet" I have not been able to program them. They simply don't work....even with new batteries. This has happend about 2-3 times, watch what you buy on the net.
