Default Key fab not working

On my limited 98 the key fab is not working despite changing the batteries. And when it did work it seemed as though the doors didn't lock/unlock with as much force as they do from the door switch. As in they lock or unlock(well used to) but it seems as though thy barely have enough power to do so. It worked like that when I got it back in July of 11 and shortly after stopped working and i have simply always unlocked it with the key. Any thoughts as to what it is?

When they did work, did all the door locks act the same way-slow? Did/does the passenger door lock act differently?

Funny, mine isn't working either. When I first got the Jeep in July '12 it worked every once in a while and then just stopped. Two weeks ago I replaced the batteries in it and it still doesn't work.

Curious as to why you ask this....

My front passanger door does not work with the fob. I assumed this was due to the fact the latch assembly came loose in the door and out of alignment, ex wasn't paying attention and repeatedly just tried slamming the door shut, figured she knocked something out of whack.

It could be that the link to the door lock motor came loose.

Does the passenger door lock work with the inside door lock switch. You said it doesn't work with the FOB.

The reason I asked about the passenger door operation is that all the door locks go through the passenger door lock module. If all the door locks, including the liftgate, don't work (properly or at all) with or without using the FOB, the passenger door module may be bad, or the circuit breaker in the JB has tripped or the fuse in the JB has blown. If the key minder sounds off with the key in the ignition and the driver's door is open, the fuse is probaly okay.

The FOB only triggers the Remote Keyless Entry module in the overhead mini lamp or overhead console to lock or unlock the doors. If the door lock switches on the driver's door or the passenger front door won't operate the locks there's other problems.

Yes, everything else is normal, thus, I agree it's most likely a mechanical disconnect, you can hear the motor functioning when the power locks are activated.

You're explination of the module passing through passenger side was what I was curious of. Thanks.
