Keep it COOL ? help...
i want to increase me XJs cooling abilities and have read a few threads involving different fan set ups, can anyone advise as to an easy, hopefully even inexpensive method to achieve this?, last time i went on a trail she got a little warm on a slow uphill climb,i had to vent some heat through the heater and don't want to have a repeat of that when the weather gets warmer.

Specifically
Engine/Transmission/T-case:
4. Ford Electric Fan ('90-95 3.8L Taurus, '87-93 5.0L Mustang) = replaces mechanical fan, more cooling (8C607)
by mechanical fan does that mean the cutch fan or the electrical?, is this a relatively easy mod and or dally driver recommended? dealer part? or junkyard...any help is greatly appreciated.

uh...i have no idea as to how old?,but everything seems to be in decent shape though, as far as rust, holes, leaks etc...it just, as i said, got a TAD warm on a slow uphill climb? and have heard of a few different possible enhancement options.

a tad.warms up fine and it runs well within the normal range under most all circumstances?, blows cold air w a/c, but we were on a trail, slow non strenuous climb in first gear 2 wheel. it began to creep just a TAD above normal..220?, until i vented off some via heater on. i am sure it runs fine?, but want to do some desert area runs and really would hate to have to have the heater on...ick...just had heard i could bolt on a different fan and that would be a good mod. no/yes?...

If u repair/replace the items in the cooling system that "I have no idea as to how old" and an overheat situation should occur, then u will know the problem can't be due to the water pump, the rad, the rad cap, the belt/hoses, the t-stat, the fan clutch, the efan, blockage, coolant level/mix, etc., etc. because u repaired/replaced all those items recently.
With all stock cooling system components functioning properly, I can't see how coolant temp could reach 220 THIS TIME OF YEAR. Six months from now, no problem reaching 220. If u don't do the proper R&R/maintenance, any "enhancements" are just going to be band-aids. Summer time heat, driving extremely slow, up-hill is probably the ultimate test of the dinky (in my opinion) XJ radiator to keep things cool. Do the R&R 1st, and go from there.

OK, good stuff. i will check to insure the e/fan works,i can see that the hoses and belts are in fine shape, maybe a cheap investment of a rad flush and new cap and go from there. now, as far as the 'dinky' (agreed) rad goes?, why not get a bigger one?...wouldn't that be a safe bet to increase its cooling abilitys?.the fact that it did get up to 220 this time of year is exactly why i am inquiring...keep in mind, i have only had this Jeep for a few months now and am slowly getting to know her...and adressing issues as the come up. it was clearly well maintained?, and i have every intention in continuing with that trend.

Larger rad surface area is way more benificial than a thicker core. Unfortunately, a wider/taller rad won't fit. Multi-row rads are a little more efficient than the stock single row but are only slightly thicker.
The efan comes on at 218 but haven't heard ours for couple months now and probably won't with several more months of cold/cool weather. I'd recommend replacing the fan clutch on the belt driven fan to start. Fan clutches start to deteriorate gradually the 1st day they're installed.
