just a quick question about speaker grilles on the roof
I recently redid my headliner in the Cherokee. I used one from a newer model that has the speaker bar on the roof. Got everything installed but the speaker grilles that I picked up from the junkyard fit very loose and are gonna fall off. Wondering if anyone has had issues getting the grilles to stay on and if so what was the fix? Im thinking of securing from behind the headliner somehow.
The jeep you got it from should of had a metal bracket that had 2 studs for the dome light in the center of the speaker bar. It hard mounts to the roof and the studs keep the center of the speaker box tight. I put on on my 88 2 years later still tight.
Unfortunately the headliner was gone at the junkyard I only salvaged the speaker bar and the grilles. the dome lights and headliner that im using were salvaged at a different time. the piece that your mentioning would make sense because my rear cargo lamp is a bit loose.
my main issue is the speaker grilles. They don’t seem to attach to the speaker bar only the headliner itself . This is where they are coming loose
Most hardware stores sell a rubber blind nut..looks like a top hat. You put a screw in it, stretch it a little so it thins out then push it through the hole you made in the liner. install your speakers and grille and when you tighten the screw fully, it bulges the top hat and makes a snug fit
thank for the info, I know exactly what your talking about as I used those well-nuts to install the roof rack. These wont work on the headliner as the speakers themselves screw onto the speaker bar and the grilles attach to the headliner which then covers the whole speaker bar setup. the speakers themselves attach to the plastic molded speaker bar that sits under the headliner
think I may have answered my own question, so after looking further at the actual soundbar it appears there are some holes for the tabs on the grills to attach to. I didn't see these as I likely overlapped the backside of the headliner when cutting out the material from the speaker openings. Gonna trim it a bit now that I see the soundbar actually has a place for the tabs to connect to I think this will solve my issue. Currently my grills are only attached to headliner and not all the way thru to the plastic where they should be
