Default just purchased, overheated

Is the thermostat in the normal location, base of the top radiator hose on intake manifold?

My symptoms are opposing, I had no heat while driving but I overheated. I thought no heat would come from no thermostat...

I realize the heater core could be bad but is that common?

THANKS!

What year? I would check the oil and make sure that you don't have a blown head. If you have a mid 99-01 it is a very common problem. Those years have the 0331 head which are garbage. BTW, the t-stat is located at the base of the top radiator hose.
If and when you post it is always good to give as much info about your rig and your problem.

Yes, the thermostat is in the normal location.

No heat plus running hot usually means really low on coolant.

Check your coolant level.

Just give it a good flushing when you change out you t-stat. Flush the radiator separately same with the heater core.
