Unhappy just got my XJ a few questions

I just got a 1984 XJ pioneer I4 carb, i know its got a slight short some where which im in the process of finding. but it wont start im getting no spark, it has been sitting for sometime. Im just wonder what i should attack first to get the motor to kick over.

Also i was wondering what parts are compatible between the different years of XJs. I need a front drive shaft, the guy said the u-joint broke and he accidentally threw the drive shaft out...so i was just wondering what years would fit.

My last problem Im having is the transfer case will not shift out of 2wd. I dont think its locked up i was able to tow the jeep home but it wont seem to shift any idea?

Dayum, you went REALLY old school lolol.

But yeah like ^^^ said, take a spark plug tester and probe inbetween the coil and dizzy, check for spark there first.

The driveshafts, I'm not sure about the years, 84-96 sounds like it could be right. I'd say just get as close to your year, with the same motor/tranny/tcase/wheelbase as you can.

Theres a JY close to me that has plenty of XJs but they only had the i4 carb in 84 and 85 i think. I didnt get a chance to check the spark gotta charge my battery but i was able to get it to shift in to 4wd and 4wdl, but when messing a round with the linkage i found a few nice rust spots in the floor. Their mainly on the driver side between the seat and door jam.
