Default Just a few questions

Ok I have a 1990 XJ that i picked up for dirt. literally i hauled a load of dirt to aguys house he had it sitting there and instead of payment we traded. it runs great no problems other than a dead batt and almost bald tires any who here are some things i wanna know about

1. ABS light is on? not sure exactly what this means as when i slam on the breaks the ABS actually works.. I dunno go figure right. and the BRAKE light is on... but there is no e brake, when i say this i mean that u pull on the ebrake handle but it doesn't feel like the cable is attached?

What are ways to trouble shoot these issues. I am able to work on it myself and have access to tools my own and buddies who have more than enough??
Is the ABS bad need to be reset or replace. I should add that the abs light only came on after i romped through some mud???? and the BRAKE light did the same. So any help you all can offer up would be great thanks.

The abs light, im not sure, as for the brake light, you say it feels like nothing is connected, you may want to follow the e-brake cables back, see if theyre hung up on something, or stuck on because i do believe that the e-brake is a cable setup.....separate from the normal braking and the red brake light does come on to indicate the e-brake is engaged, i may be wrong on the cable setup but it seems to be that way on my 99

YOu may need a shop to reset your ABS. If you had to use it meaning really pushed hard on the brakes you will have to have them reset.

Also check out your front hubs and make sure the ABS exciter rings aren't screwed up, and the hall effect pick ups and wiring are connected and in decent condition.
