Thanks again Matt, help like this is why I joined this site. I'm going to start checking my local salvage yards and craigslist for a pcm based on your recommendations and see what I come with.

Have you check the ground wires for the ECU? It is common for the ground wires to break at the back of the block making you think the ECU is bad. See this article for a photo of where the ground wire is:

I checked all the grounds when this first happened, but just went out and checked the ground and wires mentioned in your link. The ground connections are good and clean and so are the wire connectors. Thanks for the heads up though, I'm going to start calling salvage yards, even though the ones in this area want top dollar for anything thats for a jeep.

I tested the CPS several times (to make sure I got a consistent reading) according to the procedure described here: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/testing-cps-5563/
According to the information in the link my CPS is good, i got a reading of infinite resistance on my digital multimeter. Will go around and clean all grounds, again, and make sure all connections are tight and see if the PCM powers up. Really debating whether I should fix this thing or sell it as is and get another, newer cherokee, been looking to upgrade to newer for awhile now. Really going to miss the 5 speed though.

Figured it was time to update this thread as its been awhile. After some more testing I decided to replace the CPS. After replacing the CPS the Jeep still does that same thing it originally did. No spark, no priming of the fuel pump when the key is turned on. After checking all connections, grounds, and condition of the harnesses, AGAIN, I decided it was time to go for broke and replace the pcm. It should arrive Friday, when it does I'll let you all know what happens and if this fixes the problem. Thanks for all the help you guys provided

PROBLEM SOLVED! Turns out it was the ECM. Put the new one in as soon as UPS had dropped it off and the Jeep fired right up. Runs great, don't really know what caused the ecm to fail originally but all seams to be well now. Thanks for all the help and suggestions, just another reason this forum is so great!

The wallet says I'm going to have to wait a little while for that, plus I need it reliable to plow with.
