Default johnny joint help?

i got my new lower control arms to day

To my surprise the johnny joints where not put together

Anyone know the easy way to put one together ?
I'm having trouble getting it compressed enough to get to snap-ring in.

they make this tool to assemble/dis-assemble them. but for the price, im sure something could be rigged up.
