Save the money. Chips don't do much in an XJ from what I've read

Use it towards something that'll actually make a difference like a bored throttle body and upgraded injectors.

Depends on the year. My buddy had a 97 tj and put the trail jammer (intake, programmer, and throttle body) and said it was a huge difference, and the best money he ever spent. On a seat of the pants test, but I you start with 200 hp and get 20 extra hp that a 10% gain which is huge. The newer jeeps are on of the only gas engine that a programmer is worth it.

A friend of mine had the Banks kit on his TJ (4.0 5spd) Kit consisted of programmer, CAI, TB, header and full exhaust. Ran 31s on stock gearing and was pretty damn quick for what it was.

yes but just an intake and throttle body makes a big difference. difference with hypertech on an 03+? seat of your pants difference. compared a 00 with cai (with heat shield) throttle body and spacer on 33s, vs 05 with just just hypertech 05 won by long shot. 00 is peppy, 05 is a put you back in your seat beast. 00 has fresh rebuild.

oh and both are on 33s with 3:55

Well 5 years new vehicle makes a huge difference too. A 2000 corvette will kick a 1995 all day long.

well to get technical, the 00 has all new internals so it is basically a new engine. so 500 miles vs 110,000. But thats the thing, we have the hypertech off now, and the cherokee is every bit as fast as the TJ when the hypertech is removed. Also, blocks are the same. There were only minor changes to the 4.0 between 2000 and 2005, shouldnt be that different.
