Default Jerking/lurching when coming to a stop and letting off the gas

I have a '00 4.0 Auto Sport and when I slowly let off the brakes from a stop or slowly come to a complete stop it...how do I describe this...jerks? shimmies? lurches?...until I left off the brakes or come to a complete stop. I recently replaced the transmission mount so it's not that. I've also checked all suspension and steering torques. Is this a brake issue? If so, front and/or rear? Motor mounts maybe? Many thanks in advance.

Really worn brake pads perhaps.

Maybe a transmission issue? Not disengaging? Seems I saw a post awhile back similar to your symptoms caused by this.

I'm going to investigate this and hopefully that's it, but the brakes work well. We'll see. I don't know how to diagnose though and I'd rather not throw several hundred bucks and a day of my time at the brakes if I'm not sure that's the problem.

Man I hope it's not a transmission issue. It happens when coming to a stop and starting from a stop, if that matters. I'll try and find the thread(s) about that though. Thanks.

When did you last grease your slip yoke?

That's a personal question!

Kidding aside, I never have but I haven't had the Jeep very long and I have no clue when or if the PO did. I just found a writeup post on here with pictures so I'll give this a shot first seeing as how it's the cheapest and easiest. Thanks for the suggestion!

If it's a problem with the front brake pads it won't be several hundred bucks - maybe a couple hundred at most if you replace the rotors, pads and calipers.

Whether it's a transmission issue or brake issue is something that only you (or someone physically present with you) can really judge. What does it -feel- like?? Does it feel like the pads are not gripping but the tranny is smooth, or does it feel like the tranny is not right?

I don't know much about automatic Jeeps (I'm a purely manual guy myself), but my gut feeling is that this is going to be transmission related - especially if EZEarl saw a similar problem being reported.
