It's a genetic memory thing..... passed down from the original ones from WW2 They remember being in battle in the winter and ever since they get cranky in the cold. In fact, if you look at all the pictures of Jeeps out there they're happiest in the middle of the sand in the summertime.

Actually I have no idea, but the above sounded good in my head......

Mine has never failed to start for me yet. Last winter it hit -17 one day and I went out turned the key and she fired right up. Ive never had mine plugged in either. Just gotta let it warm up for a minute or two before I take off in it. Just to make sure the blood is flowing threw it again.

Never had a problem with mine in winter, as for starting. I have accidentally left the headlights on. thinking it was the courtesy headlights. (Didn't check to see if they shut off, Do now.) Next morning, when I went to jump it. The hood was frozen shut. Had to throw a tarp over the front, with a space heater under it, Until it thawed out. Lubed the hood release cable good. After it opened. Been fine since. I've come to dislike the courtesy lights.

Mine doesn't have a block heater but I like to have them. Especially right now as I don't have a garage.

I know I'll probably be okay without it but it's easier on the starting system if the block isn't completely cold.

Last Feb when it was -29F brand new cars wouldn't start but my 13 year old jeep started, but promptly overheated because the coolant was frozen. Crap!!!
