Jeep XJ 1993 missing problem
Cherokee - 1993 - petrol - 4 litre - 90,000miles
Hi can anyone help?
When running at average or high speed (25 to 90 miles an hour) the engine stutters intermittently. Problem might stop for thirty or more miles then a period of missing occurs for anything from three to thirty seconds. Only seems to happen when engine is at normal running temperature. I’ve replaced the Crank Shaft Position Sensor but problem persists.
Any help appreciated. J

At 90k... when's the last time you replaced the spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor? Check the plug wires for any splits, cracks, etc... Fuel system check would be next... Fuel filter maybe. First thing is always to check the simplist things before anything else..

No problem. Always start with the basics. Its cheaper that way and its basically the process of elimination that will help you to diagnose the problem...

Your 93 is carburated? Well try running some seafoam gas additive through a tank and see if it clears up. Could be the fuel filter I guess but Ive alwys had good luck wth rough running cars and bikes usin seafoam. Walmart or the autoparts store will have it.
