is this jeep worth the money?
how is everyone doin? im brand spanky new here at these forums so ill give everyone a little background on me. i live in north jersey and ive been wheelin for about 3 years. my first trail rig was a 1996 chevy blazer and i loved that truck. but one big puddle to many and the little 4.3l engine blew. i was going to rebuild but i started to look around and new trucks at the same time when i came across this jeep.
the jeep is a 2001 cherokee sport 4 door 4x4 with 98k on it priced at $2250. the body is a alright shape and the engine looks solid minus cylinder 3 is misfiring, but i can fix that with a tune up. now for the real problem lists. the jeep needs axle seals, rear brakes, wheel cylinders, front u-joints, front shocks, valve cover gasket, and a new windshield.
so really what im asking is do you guys think this jeep is worth it. i can do most of the work myself, im just trying to get some input from people who have owned jeeps. im sorry i don't have and pictures to post but im working on it. thanks in advance.

I'd pass on that particular Jeep as it has too many issues for that price. There's lots of decent Jeeps for that price or less. Keep looking, and don't jump too soon.

Pass on it... when it comes to the cherokee just find one you like with few problems and scoop it up. I think you are buying someone elses headache that they never took care of and are wondering why the jeep isn't running good.
Welcome to CF...
XJ's will last a long time if they're PROPERLY MAINTAINED.
This one sounds like it has been "rode hard and put away wet".
With that few miles on it and in that condition, I'd pass.
You would be better off with one that had more miles but came with receipts for regular maintenance.
Deals can be found...
BTW..be wary of rusty floorpans.
A shout out to northern NJ ...I was born in Montclair.

I would pass as well. I have found a couple near that price range ($2500-2800) without anything wrong. I went cheap and got a '95 for $600 that only needs a couple things (PS pump and A/C if I feel the need). Look for ones that look like they were taken care of- these things will last for a long time but only if you do proper maintenance, with the laundry list of problems I don't think that was the case.
thanks for all the help guys. the problem of living in jersey is that everyone wants more money then the car is really worth. that goes for most things not just cars. im gonna see if i can talk him down a bit because of all the problems, plus i like working on cars, but if he holds firm at 2250 i might pass it up. thanks for all the help.

be lucky you dont live on west coast is 10X more expansive then east coast. i still think if you can do the work your self buy it man. i love working on my jeep to and atleast when all said and done you well know your xj in and out and have the problems fixed the right way
BUY IT... trust me after u get everything goin everytime u get in your jeep youl be like dang that was a heck of a good deal... i paid 400 bucks for mine and its def. worth it even after i put another 500 in it to get it through inspection, and im still planning on droppen a couple stacks into it for lift n tires n stuff.
since u got busted shocks jus go ahead and get your lift! u kno u want one
BUT i would offer him 1500 cuz of the probs, and if he wont take it no more than 2. but even for 2250 it sounds worth it

$2250 is a great price for an 01 XJ with less than 100K on the ticker. If you'll just be paying for parts and doing all the work yourself, it is definitely worth it.
I just hope that numnber 3 miss isn't more than tune-up parts.
