Default jeep wont start, will crank...

1993 jeep cherokee, 4.0, AW4 trans, 116,000 miles. the other day after fueling up it would crank but wouldn't start. After a couple of trys it stared up. Next day at a stop light it felt like it wanted to stall out when I hit the gas. It hasn't be idling funny or anything. Today I replaced the fuel filter, thinking perhaps that could be the problem. It still wont start. I can hear the fuel pump come on, I know that doesn't mean its working, but.... so what does CF think could be wrong?

Strategy for a no-start is always the same.

Job #1 is to check for spark. Remove a plug, keep it attached to the plug wire, place the plug electrode near a good engine ground. Have a buddy crank the engine while you watch. You are looking for a strong, BLUE, snapping spark. Yellow/orange/white indicates a weak spark, which may not be strong enough to start the engine.

No spark suspects are crank sensor and ignition coil in that order. Weak spark suspect is ignition coil which can be tested.

IF you have good spark (and only if), introduce a small amount of gas or starting fluid into the intake. If the engine starts and runs with this technique, you have confirmed a "fuel delivery problem".

The above techniques are easy to perform and go a long ways in isolating root cause of any no start.

Good luck and report back your results!

I'd say it's your fuel pump man ! Go ahead replace that ! Then run a lil gum out or seafoam throughtl it and then check your iac and clean it and I can almost say that should fix it and anyone can do it !
