For some reason my Cherokee won't come out of park acts like brake pedal is not pushed down I'm leaning toward neutral saftey switch

 

Check the brake switch.

same switch that triggers the brakelights that is against the pedal under the steering column.

(moved to OEM tech)

 

Would the brake light still work

I have to get a Jeep like yours. If you have a problem. You leave it alone for a bit and it repairs it's self. LOL
At least it's working for you again. Let us know if it happen again.
That is if it doesn't fix it's self. LOL
You may want to check your linkage just to make sure that they aren't binding.
