jeep stall and water proofing
hey guys im new to the jeep world and i just picked up a sweet rig here in socal. its a 93 xj country trim. it already came with a mild lift and 31's. however my concern is that i took it to corral canyon and went on some trails which was fine, however when i went through water at a good speed my jeep shut off. i went through 2 puddles. the first one she fired right back up, the second time she had some trouble but after sitting for like 10 min. she fired up, but had some idle probs then ran fine. now, 2 days later, she still runs fine, idles fine and what not.
however i read about hydrolock and i really dont think it is it, but i still think about it. am i being paranoid about it? should i take out my plugs and cycle thorugh to see if there is water? i mean the dist cap and wires under the hood looked like water didnt touch em, and in the intake box there is no still water. could it be that i just had water make some contact with some wires?
thanks in advance for any help.

you probably just sucked a little water through your intake and had water in the cobustion chambers. My brother went mudding with me in his dodge ram but didnt take into account that he just had a short ram w/ cone intake so it just sucked it right up. had trouble starting, got it started, but had trouble staying on when he tried to accelerated. let it idle for a few mitutes and now its running fine. if it were hydrolocked i dont think you'd be able to drive it. My suggestion, get a snorkel if you got the money OR Homebrew one. there are plenty of DIY write-ups.
thought so. so i wont have to pull plugs and cycle then engine then huh? i saw a write up of someone rerouting his air intake to under the cowl. is that legit? have you ever seen this? or anyone reading this thread?
A good buddy of mine has a 90 Cherokee that's does the same thing. He drives through water then we have to wait on him for about 20 mins. Then we are back on the trails. I have read a few threads saying its the crank positioning sensor. A bare wire or a crack in the houseing. He is to much of a cheap skate to prove this point.
The filter in the cowl, I like this idea and have been looking into it. Me personally do not like the way snorkels look. I know THOR and Spectra make a kit for this application. I have been trying to figure out how to make my own.

Hey,
We has this SAME problem, we would go through a minute puddle, or drive in the rain and our jeep would just die. Wait 20 mins and she would start again. Thought it was Cps, Fuel pump and a mountain of other things.
Until one day looked under the jeep to find a hole in the drivers side floor the size of a fist, the floor had rusted through and the wiring harness that sits on the drivers side floorboard had been exposed to the elements so long the wires has rotted through and corroded. Ripped the carpet back, spliced the wires and covered the hole with sheet of steel and the jeep has not died since.
Not saying this is your exact problem, but please don't rule out something as small and unexpected to be causing your issue. Check your floorboards!

i like this idea to but from what i have heard/seen the filter in the cowl is loud in the cabin the best idea from a feller jeeper, keep the filter in the box and just run a tube from the box to the cowl and close up the front box
