Hey everyone,
First time poster so please excuse me if I make any kind of mistake.
Anyways, just wondering if anyone else has had an issue similar to mine.
I have a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Classic with the 4.0 I6. It's been running great up until these past few weeks. Two weeks ago back drums went out, not a big deal got them replaced. Same week, the pully or tensioner on the belt locked up and broke the belt. I replaced the pully and the belt, however after that it starts up different sometimes. Sometimes it starts up fine and others not. When it doesn't it just barely runs and is sputtering and I have to give it some gas to get it going, then it idles higher than normal. Id say around 2k rpm and then drops down to 1.5 rpm and then to its normal state. I've noticed my oil pressure runs higher than normal now as well. Usually at idle it sits at the half mark to a little over and when I'm running down the highway probably runs at the 3/4 mark. Now at idle its at the 3/4 mark and if I gun it it will sometimes max out. The other day it just died on me as I was out and about and wouldn't start back up for a few minutes. Wouldn't even bother to turn over and I smelled oil. It started back up and I got it back to my place but there was no oil leaking from anywhere I could see. I'm no mechanic, I can work on the vehicle but I really don't know what is wrong with it and wondered if anyone had any ideas or any direction they could point me in.
I know its a long post but I wanted anyone that reads this to know the situation.
For anyone that does read this, thank you!

The high idle and sputtering might be due to a vacuum leak. Check the hoses under the hood to see if they are cracked or any of them came off.
Not sure about the oil thing but it kind of sounds like a defective sending unit?
