Ok so my jeep wont start..when i turn the key all the lights come on and for the first few times i try to start it it sounds like it wants to turn over but it never does...then after trying to start it for a few times, the lights just barely come on and it makes no attempt to turn over..I just replaced the alternator so i have no idea what it could be...possibly need a new starter?

 

Is the battery fully charged?Being you just replaced the alternator.

 

As suggested, charge the battery and load test the battery to make sure it is good. Then have someone try starting the engine while you are near the starter. Check to see if the engine turns over normal or is slow turning. Also listen to see if you hear the solenoid clicking.

Make sure all your cables are clean and tight at the battery and the starter.

It may be just a weak battery. Don't buy a starter until you confirm it is a starter problem.

 

Ok so after much tinkering with it, i figured out that if you dont turn the air off before you turn off the ignition then it wont start when you go to restart it. after it sits for a while then it will start right up...

any idea on why that is?

 

Starter! thats it. if its dead then you can test this by arc starting it or trying atleast
