Hi, I have 2001 cherokee Sport and it never starts on the first try. It just doesn't want to turn, but when you turn the key again the second time, it starts right up. What could it be? starter? fuse? i really have no idea.

it sounds like it could be either faulty wiring or the ignition switch. i would guess the latter of the two. should be an easy fix either way.

Go to your favorite parts store and buy a fuel pressure test gauge then perform a leak down test.

Use the search feature for more info, it's been covered quite often.

Post up your results.

I think (??) He was saying that it doen't even turn over the first time he hits the key. If thats true then I would agree with "Uncharteredpath" The ignition switch, the Solenoid (On the Starter) or maybe the wiring.....
It would be interesting to know what happens to the interior/dash lights when this happens/ Do they dim? Stay the same? Does Anything change when you hit the key the first time?

i'm leaning towards it being the starter...The only time mine will start first try is if it has just been started 10min earlier.

Me too! I misread it the first time and now I am thinking Ignition switch or the rod going to it and worn or not adjusted properly.
