Default Jeep made me sick :(

I used the defrost for the first time today since last winter. It smelled a bit funny and after driving, i felt kinda sick with a headache. I dunno if it's leaking something through the system or what. Any ideas?

Probably mold or something on that order.

I usually spray some Lysol into the cowl vent when weather starts getting cooler and I may use defroster. Haven't done it yet to our Cherokees.

Hope youre feeling better now.

Hopefully it's not your heater core blowing coolant.

When you said it "smelled funny" did it have a sickningly sweet smell, like you could almost taste it?

Or was it that "Man, did something die here?" smell?

Neither. It smelled like a old damp car interior. Something like that.

You should try removing your heater core and cleaning it. I know its a pain but if somethings in there that makes you sick then your going to keep getting sick. chances are you got moldy leafs and crud sticking to your heater core.

Try the Lysol thing. Pulling the heater core means dismantling the dash almost completely.

If you like that then come visit I have some ditches to dig you'll have a blast doing that. I personally hate dashes and will do whatever to not have to tear into one.

The jeep dash is easy to take apart. Try taking apart the dash out of a Chrysler Town & Country. Thats a real pain in the behind.

What soured me on dash dismantleing was a 735 BMW that needed a new heater core. I have always done 95% of everything on every car I have ever owned so I dug into that dash to change the core. I never had a rattle before I tore it apart but had them afterwards and have done a few other things that involved takeing a dash apart but never liked it after that BMW.

a bmw would be a headache compared to a jeep. i took apart the TJ's dash before and it wasn't that hard. Just a couple wires going in and out but mostly cowwebs and lots of empty space. it would be a great way to smuggle stuff across the border into your state blue.
