Jeep knocks then shuts off

Model: Grand Cherokee
Engine: 5.2L V8
Jeep knocks then shuts off
It's a 1995 cherokee w/ 4.0l 6 automatic. When I crank it, it starts up, then I can hear a knocking sound, and it shuts off after a few seconds.
Is this the motor? Or just some screws on the torque convertor that need to be tightened?
