Never tighten the crossmember with an airtool. You need to get torque right or you'll destroy the threads. They're particularly picky there.

drill tap didn't work. the one that fit the bolt and we put on a nut that fit the bolt and it slid all the way up not touching anything. Could it we go bigger and use a bigger bolt? Will it damage the unibody at all or the crossmember

If it is a standard thread you could try tapping to a metric thread. You just have to be careful not to get the drill bit or tap stuck if the welded nut on the other side breaks loose.

sounds like the nut on the other side already broke loose.
if that's the case, you may need to cut an access hole in the floor, and either weld a nut back in there, or at least just tighten it up from there.

Ill try a different thread first, then I guess its cutting time. I can still see the nut and threads looking up into it through.
