Hello all,

I have a 1998 2.5 liter petrol sport cherokee. When I bought it there was a rough idle and backfiring when pulling away and applying load. The head gasket went and it now has a newer engine replacement with replaced sensors on the engine,new cat, new stainless steel exhaust and new Co2 lambda sensor. It still has the same rough idle in spite of a complete engine swap so this has to be a non engine related problem -there is no check engine light on and the diagnostic computer does not pick up any codes -are there any genius people out there that can work this one out?

Driving me nuts....

C`mon chaps had 15 views of this string and no one has posted an answer....

Any help greatly appreciated.

one more thing -the tailpipe on te exhaust has a black soot ring on it covering the last 1/2 inch- does this mean too rich a mixture which might mean???

Frirst thing I would do is fuel pressure test just had same problem then look into how to re install distributer

Fuel pressure testing with a gauge is absolutely job #1 here. I didn't see any mention of that in your post.
