Alright, so my 1995 jeep cherokee sport broke yesterday down by my local gas station.. When i went to turn it on, and put it in reverse. it stalled. so i said god damn. started it again. and it made the loudest noise i have ever heard, then it stalled out again. so i had no idea what it is. but my buddie from the shop thats its at said it was the WATER PUMP.. which made me think. why would that make the engine sound like it was going to blow up. But then again. if the engine overheated and i didnt notice could it make that noise? Or could the water pump have made that noise alone and the engine is fine?

 

check the water pump weep hole for starters.........

 

its in the shop. im just trying to figure out why it sounded like a jet passing by. it was very loud. could that have been the bearing in the water pump?

 

hmm...... i doubt it being that loud.... but not 100% on that

 

it wasnt a jet. but it was loud enough to make people in sheetz stop. turn. and i made some older people shake there heads at me.. i was thinking maby a bearing? but im not sure. so far the shop has only said water pump

 

I know from experience a water pump bearing can be pretty darn loud when they go..

 

well thank you. i was really hoping someone would say that. because i did not want to have to replace the engine or tranny any time soon. and boy was this loud. scared some little kid in the car beside when it started.
