JCR Front Bumper
I was looking at the JCR offroad front pre runner bumper for my 2000 xj. Does anyone know if I would need the unibody tie in brackets? And how easy the installation is?
thanks

Read this and you decide

Its really up to you.
I haven't installed a JCR bumper but have installed other companies bumpers and they are basically the same.
My bumper already had those plates welded to the bumper for extra support so it wasn't a slide it option...just bolted it up.
If you wheel hard, the steering box does need better support as I have seen the box rip the bolts through the frame.

You don't NEED the tie-in brackets, but it's a wise decision to get them if you ever plan on actually using your bumper. The unibody isn't rigid enough to hold up to the rigors of towing, pulling, pushing, etc. The brackets give the mounting bolts a more solid surface to run through, meaning your unibody and your bumper won't be under as much strain.
As for the installation, never done it, but I don't imagine it could be that hard. Mostly a remove/replace operation, but I'd recommend having an extra set of hands to help out.

If you plan on using the bumper for recovery, get them. If not you wont need them. If you go with a winch bumper I think they are mandatory to have.

Should/can the unibody tie in brackets be welded either fully or 1" spots around the outside of the brackets.
I will be building a winch bumper and have the unibody tie in brackets.
