Default ive never had a 4wd vehicle before..

hey guys. so this is my first jeep, im doin pretty good in my opinion with the build. i conveted the jeep to 4wd since winters get pretty bad where i live. lol. today i tried the 4 wheel for the first time. i started drivin in 2H, then i went to shift into 4H, no problem there. it went into gear and it felt like i had more pulling power (im jus driving in my field) so then i go to go in 4L and it went into N then wouldnt go into 4L. it felt like the lever had too much tension. now ik u can adjust this but i tried it again jus for ****s n giggles and this time it went into N bt when i tried 4l it made a grindin noise. so then i went to go back into 4h and it grinded again. so i put the transmission into N and then put the tcase into 4h and then 2h and then went back into drive. did this again and same thing. now i read online ( i googled how to drive 4wd to try and avoid asking lol) tht 2H andd 4H u can shift into moving at no more than 55 mph. my speedometerdoest work at the moment but ik i could have only been goin 20 max. and then to go into 4L u wanna be goin no more than 5 mph max. some of u guys are seasoned 4WDers so could i gert a better idea of what to do please? lol thanks :]

stop, put the transmission in netural, then shift the transfer case into netural, then you put the transfer case into 4low....thats the only way to do it

What BW said. 4H can be done on the fly. But to engage the reduction for 4L, he transmission and transfer case have to be stopped completely with no load.
